AI Auto-Compliance for Armament Directorate
Scope Overview
The Air Force Armament Directorate resolves gun maintenance issues documented in Engineering Technical Assistance Requests (ETARs), submitted as AFMC Form 107 from the field and AFMC Form 202 from the depot. Each ETAR produces a disposition report documenting the engineering decision, approved corrective action, and technical evidence.
Disposition Engineers evaluate Technical Orders, MIL-STDs, drawings, photographs, 2D and 3D models, and prior ETARs to produce defensible disposition reports. Assembling this evidence is difficult because it is distributed across multiple systems, described with inconsistent terminology, and updated over time. Engineers manually locate relevant sections, verify citations, and reconcile evolving standards. This introduces significant delays in responding and creates risk of errors.
To address these challenges, Shipcom developed the AI-Enabled Armament Auto-Compliance Tool (Figure 1).

The AI-enabled Auto-compliance Tool uses an ontology with stable identifiers for ETAR issues, parts, Technical Orders, standards, and citations – enabling deterministic queries. For each ETAR, the system generates a case- specific Evidence Pack that extracts exact Technical Order and MIL-STD paragraphs and links them to relevant drawings, models, affected parts and assemblies, and prior ETARs.
The Evidence Pack flags missing measurements or photographs and highlights conflicting sources before analysis. By clustering ETARs by problem type and surfacing validated precedents, the tool reduces document discovery time and allows engineers to focus on engineering judgment while retaining full authority over the final disposition report.
